Dirty and mouldy shower curtains

Wash your shower curtains with a bleach solution. These can be a little tricky largely because of their size and weight. Getting rid of mould and mildew, particularly in humid or damp weather is tough.

Here is the solution: Pour 3.7 liters of warm water into a plastic bucket, and mix with ½ cup of household bleach. With gloves on (plastic) soak up the solution with a sponge, and give it a squeeze to avoid dripping and mess, and wipe away. Once this is done, rinse with the shower head.

2. The hard to reach places are impossible to clean

An old toothbrush is the perfect tool to reach all of those cracks and hard to reach places. Use the toothbrush to clean your bathtub’s tracks and sliding glass doors. All you need to do is spray some bathroom cleaner onto a paper towel and wrap the soaked towel around the end of the toothbrush.

Slide the bristle end along the tracks to collect dirt and grime. If that’s not enough, use the bristles of the brush for some light scrubbing, alternating between the bristles and the wet towel.

3. Mineral deposits on your faucets

White vinegar is the answer here. Those crusty unsightly deposits can be simply removed with this easy step….

Before bedtime, take some white vinegar and old paper towels or a cloth. Saturate the paper towels in the white vinegar and wrap them tight around the dirty faucet. Once morning comes, remove the towels and fill up your sink with warm water, and a little squirt of dishwashing liquid.

Dip an old toothbrush into the solution in your sink and brush the faucet to remove the last remains of the white mineral deposits. Done!

4. Shower doors are also scummy

To help stop the problem before it starts, us furniture oil.

Cleaning soap scum off shower doors is a long, tough time consuming way to spend a weekend. Using lemon oil furniture polish to create a barrier and prevent build up.

The next time that you clean your shower door, follow it up by wiping it with oil on a soft rag. Let the oil sit for three minutes, then proceed to wipe off any excess oil with a dry towel.

The furniture polish will leave a film on the shower curtain that will protect it from future sticky soap scum. A wipe with a squeegee every now and then will also help.

5. Filmy glass shower doors

Vinegar, baking soda and salt are your key ingredients.

That hard to get rid of mineral buildup can be easily eliminated with these easy to find household ingredients.

Spray vinegar onto the shower door and have it sit for five minutes. Then create a paste with baking soda and salt. Take a sponge and rub this paste over the door. Rinsing well at the end.

6. Bathroom grout dirty with mildew

Again, vinegar is your key. Pour some white vinegar into a bucket, take an old toothbrush and dip into the solution, use this to scrub the affected grout.

Alternatively, put the solution into a spray bottle, and squirt the mouldy areas, leaving to sit for around 7-10 minutes. Bleach is also effective with use of a cotton bud in place of the toothbrush.

Get in touch if it’s all too much…

If your bathroom is beyond repair, perhaps it’s best just to start over.
